Food Program & Meal Policies

A Thoughtful Approach to Nourishment

At Every Child Oaks (ECO), we believe that mealtimes are not only for nourishment—they are meaningful moments for learning, connection, and care. While we currently provide morning and afternoon snacks, families are asked to pack a nutritious lunch for their child. As enrollment grows, we look forward to introducing a full food program that will become an integral part of our curriculum.

🌿 Looking Ahead: ECO’s Food Philosophy

Our future ECO Food Program will reflect our values of health, community, and sustainability. Guided by our on-site cook and inspired by the rhythms of the seasons, local produce, and garden-fresh ingredients from the ECO garden, children will be invited into a collaborative journey around food.

Key features of our upcoming food program include:

  • Seasonal and Locally Sourced Ingredients

  • Organic and Nutrient-Rich Menus

  • Child-Inspired Meal Planning

  • Connection to Garden Activities and Harvests

With teacher and family input, children will participate in menu decisions and develop a strong relationship with the food they eat—where it comes from, how it’s prepared, and how it nurtures their bodies.

🧑‍🍳 Our Core Principles

We are guided by two foundational beliefs:

  1. High-Quality, Whole Foods
We prioritize fresh, organic ingredients—vegetables, legumes, grains, meats, fish, and fruit—while avoiding added sugars and highly processed foods. All meals will align with the USDA’s MyPlate and Dietary Guidelines for Americans.

  2. Family-Style Dining
Children and educators sit together to enjoy meals in a warm, communal setting. Through shared meals, children observe positive eating habits, learn mealtime etiquette, and gain confidence in exploring new foods.

Family-style dining helps promote:

  • Social-emotional development through shared conversation

  • Fine motor skills through serving and utensil use

  • Responsibility by setting and clearing the table

  • Respect for others’ food preferences and needs

Educators are asked to model healthy eating habits while in view of children, reinforcing the culture of wellness and mindfulness we aim to cultivate.

🧺 Dietary Needs & Allergies

ECO is happy and fully prepared to accommodate allergies, food restrictions, and special dietary requirements. Families are encouraged to speak directly with the Director to ensure your child’s needs are fully understood and supported.
